“Dull Files” focuses mainly on politics. The name is taken from a quote by Montesquieu: “Politics is a dull file which cuts gradually and slowly arrives at its end”.
We are two authors, Lars Ethelberg Nielsen and Jakob Trane Ibsen.
Lars is a civil servant at the Municipality of Copenhagen in Denmark. Jakob is a PhD student at Roskilde University, Denmark.
We hope that in the long run our posts and discussions on this blog will give us some diagnosis of modern society broadly speaking. We discuss changes in forms and modes of capitalism, for instance, and their consequences. Our presumption is not that capitalism is particularly good or bad. It is just there, in various shapes. We conduct this discussion primarily by discussing important works wihtin political and social theory, and the social sciences more generally.
We also intend to comment on various occurrances in politics, culture and entertainment. So occassionally there should be a post on Danish local government reform, Indonesian elections, British views towards the European Union, and immigration polices in Europe, as well as on films we have seen, stories we have heard, or (too infrequently) concerts we have attended.
You are very welcome to discuss and provide input for our posts. There is no standard for comments but good faith.
